Use process escalation to specify how long the individual tasks should last. This set duration is the standard duration for your process. The computation of all further escalations is based on it. You define this duration in certain units, like minutes, hours, or days. This escalation time is converted to a date for the individual tasks. You start a process on a certain day, say, April 1, and specify that it should last 5 days. The end date is then automatically calculated to be April 6.
Please note: However, the process duration is only for information purposes at this point. No escalations arise from it to start with, that is, the step does not get passed to a person of greater process authority. Later, using escalations, you specify when, to whom, and about what a notification is sent. You can use an action rule to modify the process escalation (See chapter Dynamic escalation).
